[ It's not like they ever agreed on exclusivity, yet Eddie feels compelled to make sure Steve knows he's not sleeping around. It's totally fine, it's not even a thing. ]
[ Eddie is maybe a little bit surprised, given Steve's reputation and the fact that they didn't really agree on anything exclusive. At least, not yet. ]
[ That is the absolute closest he's going to get to saying something embarrassing like wanting to be the only romantic interest in Eddie's life or that he thinks about going on dates and holding hands with him. ]
[ This is getting into dangerous territory, treading the boundary of where Steve is likely to get his feelings hurt. He knows that he's a romantic sap, hasn't always been on the surface or shown it much in his actions. What he's started to realize is that he should be truer to himself, but with that comes the judgment from people who are used to the image they have of Steve Harrington rather than who he is now.
But also, Eddie is one of those rare few who knows everything and not only has been sticking around but wiggled his way closer, too. ]
[ His heart feels like it's melded into his stomach and that he's going to be sick, but he still forces himself to type the next words. ]
We could always
We might as well
We're already doing it, so
[ None of them start off the way he wants them to, so he erases them and starts over until finally he's satisfied with the wording ]
If you want to keep it casual, that's fine, I want you to feel comfortable more than anything.
But as it turns out, I really fucking like you, Steve Harrington, and if you did want this to be more serious, if you did want to date me, like really date me, I think I would be the luckiest man in Hawkins.
[ And then as soon as he presses send, he tosses his phone across the room, terrified to see the reply he's going to get. ]
[ The fact that Eddie takes so long to reply doesn't do anything to calm Steve's nerves. He's pacing around in his room when he gets the text and devours them like a starving man. It's a rollercoaster for sure, taking him on a ride between thinking Eddie wants to keep it casual to the admission he really likes Steve, then the nerves returning at the thought of being the one responsible for wanting to date, to Eddie calling himself lucky to be with him. There's no reason to play it cool, no one to impress, so if he breaks out in a giant smile and collapses onto his bed to yell into his pillow then at least his dignity will remain intact. ]
First, yes.
Second, did you really just text that all to me? Where are you? I'm going to come beat you up and then kiss you better you asshole.
[ Always the masochist, Eddie dives for the phone as soon as he hears the notification come in. And, unlike Steve, he is definitely not home alone and does absolutely nothing to hide his absolute glee at the answer he sees.
He knows his uncle is going to torture him about this later. ]
Yeah, so I thought about coming over? But I wasn't sure if your parents were home and you do not want me trying to climb up to your window.
But I'm home, my uncle's about to leave for work so you should definitely come here and punish me for being such an idiot.
They're home and would have definitely seen your ass trying to scale the wall and then falling into the pool.
Don't you dare move.
[ Steve is a good driver, and under most circumstances a very careful one. For anything short of a demodog chasing after him, he would obey the speed limit and enjoy cruising around to whatever music the radio spat out at him. This evening is a different story, however; he books it down the stairs and out the front door fast enough to escape any questioning from his parents, slides into the BMW, then steps on the gas. He's still several traffic violations away from Eddie's style of driving, but it's enough to get him to the trailer park in record time. He only slows down when he pulls up in front of the Munson's new home, sponsored by a government that's sunk a lot of its budget into buying the silence of a sleepy Indiana town. Steve had been happy for Eddie and his uncle considering they would have had to live in a former murder scene and biological hazard site if not for being moved to the bigger two-room trailer on the other side of Forest Hills.
His car isn't that much of an unusual sight parked out front of the trailer, nor is him walking boldly to the front door. They don't have to sneak around as much here, but he's still not about to start serenading Eddie with a love song from outside his window. Instead, he knocks on the door and takes a step back, rocking somewhat anxiously on the balls of his feet as he waits. Wayne's truck is gone, so at least he knows that he can pounce on Eddie once he answers. ]
[ As much as Eddie would have loved to be the one to do something stupid in the name of love, it's definitely for the best that Steve come to him. For one, Eddie is not nearly as athletic or sneaky as Steve is, and would have surely been caught. Not to mention, they don't really have a track record for being able to keep quiet, so even if Steve somehow snuck Eddie inside, he doesn't think they would have been able to keep from alerting Steve's parents for very long.
It's not really what Steve meant when he said don't move, but Eddie can't help but pace the living room area by the entrance to their trailer, waiting impatiently for Steve's arrival. Even though they both cleared everything up via text, it still leaves him wracked with nerves, wanting nothing more than to have Steve's arms right around him right now, to reassure him that this all hasn't been one enormous hallucination.
And finally, finally he hears the BMW parking in front of the trailer. Eddie barely waits more than three seconds after Steve's knock before he's tearing the door open, wearing the most lovesick expression he can muster as he unceremoniously pulls Steve inside. It's probably a damn good thing Wayne isn't here, because there is no fucking way he is waiting until they reach his bedroom before he has his hands all over Steve. ] Jesus, did you race here the whole way? My little speed demon.
[ The door opens and Steve realizes he doesn't know what to say, hasn't really prepared any kind of greeting since his mind has been so focused on just kissing Eddie as soon as possible. It means he's easy to pull inside, Eddie's fist in the front of his polo doing wonderful things to his imagination, because not only is he not going to fight anything that brings them closer together, he's going to lean right into it.
Grinning like an idiot as he stumbles inside and hears the door click behind him, he spins them around to press Eddie up against it and kiss him hello. He knows that it's going to get increasingly difficult to pull away from him, so he leans back now while he can because talking is important even if he's not always the best at it. ] Had to get here before you changed your mind about dating me.
[ It's the grin on Steve's face that completely does Eddie in. He melts into Steve's kiss, his hand fisted around Steve's polo slowly relaxing before he eventually smooths it back over and returns Steve's grin with an equally idiotic one of his own. ]
Baby, there's no way I could have changed my mind. [ He leans in to press another kiss to Steve's lips, knowing fully well that if he keeps this up, they won't even make it to Eddie's bedroom. Now that he has Steve all to himself and everything is out in the open, he finds himself wondering what to even do first. He hadn't even considered that this could eventually be an option, figuring that maybe Steve would wise up, go back to Nancy, or one of his many Hawkins hotties would actually pan out for once. But this? A world in which Steve actually likes him, wants to be with him in a serious committed relationship?
Eddie's had to pinch himself several times already to make sure he hadn't dreamt up their whole conversation. ]
[ Chuckling into the kiss that he greedily returns, he snacks both arms around Eddie's waist and pulls him tighter against his body. He doesn't want to let go of him now that he has him, now that he's figured out enough of himself to know that Eddie is who he wants. Maybe it's one reason none of his attempts at dating ever went anywhere, why he stopped even trying after he'd found his way into Eddie's bed. Steve's smooth as hell and good at sex, but he's never been all that well-versed in matters of his own heart.
He pulls away with a intake of breath, feeling dizzy with everything that's going on but searching for a bit of balance. Just for a moment, just long enough to do the talking thing because if he'd learned one thing from his relationship with Nancy, it was that he needed to talk about stuff more. ]
Before that, I just want to make sure we're like... exclusive. I want to date only you and I want you to date only me.
[ It's funny. They've done this dance before, the frenzied kisses, the race to the bedroom, but there had always been something missing from that, even if Eddie hadn't realized it until now. The emotion behind each kiss feels charged, and heightens the whole thing, makes the hairs on Eddie's arms stand on end as if there's static electricity in the air.
When Steve pulls away, for a moment he worries that he misread the situation, but he immediately relaxes when he recognizes what it is Steve is asking, and the seriousness with which Steve is asking. He doesn't know the details of what happened with Nancy, still feels bad about trying to push the two of them together in spite of everything, but he can guess that it must have done a number on Steve's head and heart.
He lips flicker upwards as he draws in a deep breath and brings a hand up to Steve's cheek, brushing a thumb against his lips. ] That's what I want, too, Steve. [ Not Harrington, not pretty boy, not even Stevie or any of the other nicknames he's bestowed Steve with, just his name, plain and simple. ] It's kind of all I've ever wanted. [ he admits sheepishly. ]
[ Eddie drags in a breath and for a moment, Steve panics. It's a moment in time that stretches out as he imagines Eddie telling him no, he likes being in a free and open relationship, thank you. It makes sense in the corner of Steve's brain that houses his own insecurities and unfair misconceptions about Eddie no matter how hard he tries to get rid of both. Someone as into anarchy as Eddie probably wouldn't like being tied down, right? But Steve does his best to ignore all of that, waiting for Eddie's answer with bated breath as he turns into the hand cupping his face and kisses the pad of Eddie's wandering thumb.
It's worth the wait, and when he hears the answer he immediately believes it. Eddie's been there the whole time, patient while Steve figured his shit out—figured his heart out, too. Smiling and thinking his name has never sounded so good, Steve slips his hands up the back of Eddie's shirt to splay warm and tight over his spine. ] Good, because I want you, Eddie. Just you.
[ A warmth envelopes Eddie at that, like being wrapped up in a blanket. A part of him had always worried that Steve would eventually get sick of him, or that this was just an experiment to Steve, nothing more. Steve had his own reputation, after all, but he had proven time and again that Eddie was more than that. ]
You have me, all of me, every single inch. [ He pulls Steve in close, letting his arms wrap around Steve's neck and leans his cheek against Steve's cheek. His heart is beating rapidly, and with chest pressed against chest, Steve would be able to pick up on it with thin enough layers. There might have been a time not long ago when Eddie would have wanted to disguise this fact, but now all of his walls have been torn down, and he feels like he has nothing to hide. It's both exhilarating and scary, and instead of saying anything to vocalize this fact, Eddie just pulls his head back long enough so that he can press his lips to Steve's. ]
[ At first, Steve gets ready for a kiss, but then Eddie just holds him and somehow that's even more intimate. They've kissed and fucked and everything in-between, but just hugging like this makes him feel more vulnerable than all of those touches before. There's no expectation of sex, no pressure to give comfort, just... the two of them together, hearts beating in quick harmony as Steve tightens his arms around Eddie. It makes his chest warm and then ache because he can't honestly remember the last time anyone just held him like this.
Turning his head into the kiss is an instinct and he smiles at the familiar taste of Eddie. Here they are sharing a tender moment as they finally fess up to their feelings, and Steve's got his arms pinned between Eddie and the harsh edges of the trailer door. Kissing him again, then peppering more of them across his cheeks and nose, Steve takes a step back and pulls Eddie with him. ] So, I've got every inch of you. Care to show me a few of those inches now?
[ Even before all of this, when it was just sex, Eddie couldn't believe that Steve would want him in any capacity. It always rocked him to his very core, every single time Steve looked at him like he wanted to devour him. Who knew when that look softened into something more emotional, if it was maybe even there all along and the both of them just ignored what they were feeling because it felt safer.
Now with everything out in the open, it feels like they have all the time in the world. Not that it ever felt like they needed to rush, but now it no longer feels like there might be an expiration date one day. Now Eddie can stumble after Steve with a big goofy grin on his face as he lets his boyfriend -- or partner, whatever they'll figure that out later -- lead the way. ] Darling, you need only ask. [ He starts with his shirt, pulling it up teasingly slow before tugging it up over his head, holding onto it for now. Just in case they get lazy later and don't want to clean up a trail of clothing; he doubts Wayne will appreciate tripping over it when he returns home from work. ]
[ The pet name hits him right in his heart, bullseye at point blank. His hands tighten on Eddie's back and then slip to his sides so he can pull him tight to his chest for another kiss simply because he can.
Steve stops to watch Eddie take off his shirt like it's a sight he's never seen before. It feels new, just like kissing him is heightened now, and he knows he can look over Eddie's body because it's his, in some ways. Steve knows better than to think he could ever own a person, least of all someone like Eddie Munson, but there is a sense of belonging to one another now. No one else will get to look at him, or touch him, the way that Steve does. ]
God, you're so hot. [ He moves his hands up from where they're come to rest on his hips to trail his fingers over scars and tattoos and tease a nipple. ]
[ It never gets old, having Steve look at him like this. Even the first time they decided to sleep together, before feelings were attached, Eddie felt special holding Steve's full attention. And now, it only feels all the better because he knows Steve isn't looking at anyone else like this.
He shivers at the touch. When once he might have cowered a little bit, at having his scars and insecurities completely out in the open for Steve to scrutinize, he now feels completely comfortable, knows that Steve would never do anything to hurt him. He smiles, running his hands up Steve's chest to eventually come to a rest over his shoulders, squeezing gently. ]
You're one to talk, big boy. [ He waggles his eyebrows before leaning in for a kiss. ] Mmm bedroom? Then you can see all the inches of me that you want.
